Quick Thought:  It’s Not About You, It’s About OTHERS!

I don’t mind “tough” decisions, at all, but I just LOVE really easy ones.  Slam dunks.  No-brainers.

My favorite of all time is 2 Corinthians 5:21 – God’s plan of salvation for Christ to “be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

What a deal!  What an offer!  He’ll place my sinfulness onto Himself and place His righteousness onto me?  Beyond irresistible.  Who could ever say no to that?!  Exchange an eternity in hell for an eternity in heaven?  SIGN.  ME.  UP.

But salvation is a one-time thing, so the no-brainer which I find myself focusing on far more in my day-to-day life is this:  “And whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12; Luke 14:11; later echoed in James 4:9-10)

Or as Charles Spurgeon used to put it, every person has a choice of “being humble or being humbled.”  So true!  And the choice couldn’t be easier.

Even on the human level, while many people (rather rightfully) resist the self-exaltation of another, I’ve never  come across EVEN ONE person who has resisted the self-humbling of another.  It’s both the right, righteous, biblical path, and  the path of least resistance… NO-BRAINER!

Sign.  Me.  Up.

Easier said than done, and indeed needful of the Holy Spirit to bring about (Galatians 5:22-23) but the Bible is the best way.  Reading it.  Studying it.  And especially memorizing (ingesting, internalizing) it.

When I look back on my life, on my faith journey so far, less so now but overall I think that pride has been my biggest potential pitfall, my most massive mistake, and I can remember as though it were this morning the very day and indeed minute when this inescapable choice confronted me in a very real and tangible way, and my eyes were finally opened to not only how EASY that choice is but also how utterly blissful once made.  It’s a process which will continue until I reach the shores of a certain crystal sea, but even in that very first nanosecond I felt like I traveled a THOUSAND MILES in terms of relief and release and happiness, peace, patience, and pure joy.

I ended the previous post by saying, “When it comes to sinit’s not about others, it’s about YOU!”  I’ll end this one by saying, “When it comes to honor and exaltationit’s not about you, it’s about OTHERS!

Make this your go-to interpersonal perspective and position, and you’ll never run short of joy.  I guarantee it.
